[KKY2026] KYOTO DENIM Daruma
A contemporary take on the traditional Japanese Daruma, created by KYOTO DENIM as an object for wishes and intentions.
Blending modern denim with over 300 years of Kyoto dyeing tradition, each Daruma is finished by hand with delicate gold leaf using Kinsai Yuzen techniques, making no two exactly alike. Lightweight, with denim that develops its own character over time, it brings together traditional craftsmanship and modern design.
WHAT IS A DARUMA?
Daruma is a traditional Japanese good-luck symbol of wishes and determination. One eye is filled in when making a wish or setting a goal, and the other when it is fulfilled.
About KYOTO DENIM
KYOTO DENIM is a Kyoto-based brand that brings traditional kimono dyeing and decorative techniques to denim. Rooted in a family of kimono makers dating back to the Edo period, the brand gives centuries-old craftsmanship a new place in modern life.
As kimono has become less a part of everyday life, KYOTO DENIM carries these traditional skills forward through denim—a material that develops character and beauty with age. Since 2007, the brand has been creating a new way for Kyoto craftsmanship to live on today.
